Renaissance Online Magazine is a non-profit, monthly magazine, published online. The editors encourage unsolicited submissions but recommend that potential contributors visit the magazine and browse our past issues before submitting. Please write with a specific department in mind and note the section in the cover letter of all submissions. (Sections may be found on our contents page or in the archives.) Please no simultaneous submissions.
Renaissance Online Magazine prefers email submissions but will consider traditionally mailed pieces. For emailed pieces, please cut-and-paste the work into the body of the email. Only use attachments as a last resort to avoid software conflicts. If an attachment is necessary, save your document as "text-only" in Microsoft Word or Claris Works and attach one copy to the email. ROM acquires all online publishing rights. Works may still be submitted to printed publications as long as those publications are made aware that the piece was previously published by Renaissance Online. Departmental Policies Bytes and Picas: Currently seeking dedicated writers for news and reviews of the gadget culture, including video games, technology, the internet and marketing strategies. Please query for more information. Pieces will need to be thought-provoking and issue oriented. Word counts will range from 500-800. Reviews: Please query first. Review opportunities exist in television, music, movies and books. Our most pressing need is to find a dedicated television writer - someone who is familiar with industry trends and can write an entertaining, monthly piece on television programs and trends. ROM also reviews books of poetry occasionally; open to unsolicited reviews, but query first. Reviews must be unbiased and not PR for the publisher. Essays: fall under the section "That's Life." Pieces should be between 800-1000 words on true-life events. Works should present a thought-provoking dialogue on a current and/or news-worthy topic. Always in demand Sports: Please query first. Opportunities exist for monthly baseball, football and basketball writers as well as a general sports columnist. Pieces will need to be thought-provoking and issue oriented, not game stories. Word counts will range from 500-800. Fiction: pieces from 800-2000 words (approx. 3-8 double-spaced pages). Serial fiction is also consider, but please query with idea before submitting. Wide range of fiction considered but will not read lewd or sexually graphic works. Poetry: work should be cerebral (no limericks or the like). Will consider multiple submissions (not to exceed five) and publish up to three poems per poet. Poetry should reveal a strong emotion and be able to elicit a response from the reader. No nursery rhymes or profane works. Publish theme issues occasionally (usually holiday or season related). Contact: Nicholas Twemlow. Humor and Food for Thought pieces are only considered from query.
